Ride Update for October 9 to October 15

For directions to our ride start loctions, (click here)

Weather - Scattered rain chance throughout the week so we'll just have to watch. Highs in the low 80s, lows in the high 50s. As always, check before you roll!

Teasday and Thursday - 6:00 - We ride through Berkeley Lake on the way out, then down to Duluth and back around the Pinckneyville athletic fields and down Spalding to the finish. A couple of options allow for a ride distance of between 21 and 25+ miles. You can add Scotts Mill and Hermitage if you crave a few more hills! This ride departs promptly at 6 PM! If you are running late and don't know the intercept points, let me know.

Hope to be there!

Saturday - 8:00 - This week the Dunwoody/Azalea route is up! We will briefly head north on 141, then work our way to the Hooch for 10 miles of "pan flat" spinning along the river. Then rollers as we head home through Dunwoody. The distance is 36 miles so slightly longer than the other options but I think you will enjoy it! No drop of course (but we often self seed into faster and slower groups along the way).

Sunday - 8:00 - Lifetime Fitness Peachtree Corners We will do the long Windward loop. Plan for 40 miles. This has become sort of our "go to" route for the 8 AM ride. It is a good mix of terrain and everyone seems to like it.

Ride Descriptions

Every Tuesday and Thursday

Ride time is 6:00 PM (we change the start time to 12:00 when Daylight Saving Time ends).

Join PC3 for a spin around Berkeley Lake. This is a medium intensity tide which avoids most of the rush hour traffic! It is no drop. Plan for about 20 miles and a little more than an hour. We depart from the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church in Peachtree Corners, just north of Dunwoody. For directions, go to:

Every Saturday

This is a great moderate intensity ride! We depart from Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners and do one of three alternating routes. The first, "the classic route" is a 33 mile loop through Peachtree Corners, Berkeley Lake and Duluth. It is fairly hilly but you can skip a couple of the most challenging climbs if it is a recovery day or "you just don't want too). The second is the "flat route" (which is flatter, but definitely not flat). The distance is also around 33 miles. The third is a bit longer and incorporates a long "pan flat time trial stretch along the Hooch (about 10 miles) sandwiched between some challenging hills before and after! All are "no drop" rides, meaning we endeavor to stay together as a group and regroup at turns to make sure no one gets lost. The average speed is 15 MPH and we have a few regroup stops so the ride usually takes about 2 ½ hours.

*Please note that while this ride is a moderate intensity "no drop" social ride, it is definitely not a beginner ride. I'm assuming you have 1) a road bike, 2) a basic understanding of the operation of your bike, including shifting, braking and basic bike handling, and 3) adequate fitness to ride for 90 minutes to 2 hours at an intensity that is equivalent to moderate jogging. If you are uncertain, please contact me and we'll figure it out. I'm also happy to set up a time to work with you on basic bike skills.

Every Sunday

The route varies from week to week and includes Lake Lanier, Buford, Crabapple/3 Sisters and other areas in North Fulton, Forsyth and occasionally Cherokee Counties. Look for distances ranging from 40 to 50+ miles and occasionally longer. Our rides are usually pretty hilly so the average speed for the entire ride is typically around 16 to17 mph. This is a "no drop" ride but we will to go into A/B mode on days when we have a mixed group of riders so everyone has a good experience. When we do this someone who knows the route will always remain with the B group. We depart from Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners, just north of Dunwoody. For directions. go to:

" Congratulations to all who did the CF Cycle for Life event Saturday! Great job for a great cause!

" We are going to schedule some PC3 "Special Events" for the upcoming weeks. Some of the ideas we have tossed around include an Athens Brewery Ride, an Amicalola Falls ride/picnic and a Silver Comet junket. Stay tuned for more details and of course, other ideas are welcome!

" Danny is going to suspend the 7 AM Sunday ride for the moment due to encroaching darkness. We may reinstate after the time change if there is interest. Let us know your ideas.
