Fitness Testing
We have finally gotten a date to perform VO2 Max testing! Tony Myers of Athletic Training Services will be at Ravinia Club on Saturday, October 3rd to perform this very useful test for anyone who is a competitive athlete or who just wants to maximize fitness and optimize your training. As with any physical exercise, consult with your physician to make sure you are medically able to participate!

What is VO2 Max testing?

A test that determines your maximum ability to process oxygen as you exercise.

Why is it helpful?

This test provides the information to allow you to tailor your training to your specific fitness goals. Specifically it will:

" Determine your maximum heart rate
" Determine your heart rate training zones
" Determine your lactate threshold
" Determine your anaerobic threshold
" Determine your metabolic rate (how many calories you burn)
" Provide the data you need to effectively train toward your specific goals.
" Avoid overtraining
" Avoid undertraining

What is the test like?

You will simply ride a Spinning Bike while wearing a breathing mask that measures the composition of the air you breath out. The computer uses this information to determine your data. The test lasts less then ten minutes. You will start out at an easy intensity and then the intensity will gradually increase to a significant effort. By the end you will work hard but not to exhaustion. It will be somewhat similar to the last few minutes of a hard Spin class or hill climb. You will come away from the test with a detailed printout of your data and I will walk you through what the data means and how to use it.

How much does it cost?

$75. This test usually costs from $125 to $150 but by special arrangement with ATS and Ravinia, we are able to do it at a very significant discount.

How do I sign up?

We are offering the test every half hour from 9:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, October 3rd at Ravinia Club. Email me randy.bailey@comcast.net with your preferred time and I'll fill the calendar on a first come/first served basis.

What if I have questions?
